About

How Restore Rooms works

Restore Rooms is an independent UK guide to home saunas and cold water plunges. We explain what they cost, what installing one involves, and which of the options is the sensible one for a given house and a given budget — and then, if you want prices, we put your enquiry in front of installers who cover your area.

How we make money

Installers pay us for qualified enquiries. You pay nothing, and there is no markup added to any quote you receive. We think that is a reasonable model, but it only stays reasonable if it is stated plainly rather than buried in a footer, so: that is the model.

What it means in practice is that we have an incentive to be useful rather than to push you toward the most expensive option — a reader who is told honestly that a £300 tub is the right buy is a reader who comes back in two years when it isn't.

What we are not

  • Not a retailer. We do not sell saunas, plunges, chillers or accessories, and we do not run affiliate links to shops.
  • Not installers. We do not fit anything ourselves. When we describe what an installation involves, we are describing the work, not advertising our own.
  • Not medical. Cold water immersion and heat exposure are widely studied and widely oversold. We report what the evidence supports and where it is weak, and we do not make health claims.

How we get to our numbers

Every price range on this site is indicative and dated, assembled from published UK supplier pricing rather than invented. Every running-cost figure states its assumptions — the electricity unit rate, the cabin volume, the duty cycle — so you can substitute your own. Where a number is our own estimate rather than a sourced figure, we say so.

On the rules

The planning and electrical guidance here is written against the published position for England and Wales and is cited. It is general guidance, not a determination: your local planning authority decides planning questions and a registered electrician decides electrical ones. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own rules.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we want to know — prices move, rules change, and a guide that isn't corrected stops being one. Get in touch through the contact page.
